For the first time in history, evergreen Indian Army has has issued an advertisement in newspapers for recruiting women soldiers into the military police, in the “Personnel Below Officer Rank” (PBOR) category.
According to the Army advertisement, “the application window for recruitment of “soldier general duty (Women Military Police)” that opened will be closed on June 8.
It’s a huge step towards further empowering women and improving their representation in our armed forces,” tweeted the BJP on January 18. The Army needs police assistance for responsibilities such as rape and molestation cases, assistance in evacuation of villages during cross-border conflicts, crowd control of women and children, frisking of women during cordon-and-search. The PBOR also runs prisoner-of-war camps in conflict situations.
This is a great step in strengthning the military backbone of our country.
