Rising air and plastic pollution is a matter of concern now days. To fight back with this problem, scientists from IIT Guwahati have developed India’s first biodegradable plastics, with the help of home grown process and technology.

This first of its kind biodegradable plastics to tackle pollution has been developed by IIT-G’s Centre of Excellence-Sustainable Polymers. This biodegradable plastic has passed the hot beverage test and is unique in its own way, because it has no hazardous chemicals.

IIT Guwahati is the only center in India which is carrying out research on biodegradable plastics. Till now IIT-G is producing 7-8 kg of plastics at one go. This is really a unique initiative to tackle with the ongoing plastic and air pollution, and in turn this will be helpful to keep our environment clean and green.
