We usually know that NGO or a group of people from our society takes the initiative of cleanliness drives and campaigns, but recently a group of beggars came forward to clean the plastic waste of river Gomti in Lucknow.

These beggars cleaned two sections of the river in a time span of less than three hours, with the help of brooms and baskets. This out of the box initiative was carried out by Sharad Patel who is the founder of “Badlaav” a non profit organisation. “Badlaav” works towards ending the social evil of begging through rehabilitative and creating employment opportunities.

Just the way Holika Dahan symbolises the end of evil, Sharad wants the volunteers to use this initiative to bid goodbye to their former life and turn over a new leaf.
